Girls Golf Season Recap: 2018 Fall Season
This year, the girl's golf team kicked off their season with some record-breaking scores and a solid opportunity to go to Sectionals. The Varsity Girls were able to qualify as a team for Sectionals for the first time in 4 years. Sectionals was held at Westhaven Golf Course in Oshkosh. There were many personal, along with team goals that were set and made for the 2018 season, and the team couldn’t be more pleased.
Senior Madison LaPaz had tied the lowest Oconomowoc Girl’s Golf score for a 74, with Alix Larson, a 2015 graduate. LaPaz also scored the lowest 9-hole score ever for Oconomowoc Girl’s Golf with a 34 (E).
Junior Grace Suter was the solo WIAA state qualifier, the first one since 2006. She finished tied for 20th with solid scores of 86 and 81 at the University Ridge in Verona, Wisconsin.
Senior Grace Westerman was able to meet her personal goal this season and shot within the 30’s twice this season in and out of conference, giving the team the extra few point lead in some matches.
Other Varsity players, Junior Macie Borgman, Senior Lauren Alioto, and Senior Lauren Drews were able to finish out the season strong and help lead the team to first place wins, along with helping the team qualify for Sectionals.
There were a few ‘bumps in the road’ for the Varsity team, but thanks to the coaching staff of Jason Dahl, John Bratz and Julia Henning, the team was able to prevail in the long run.
This season, the Girl’s Golf Team will be saying goodbye to five Seniors, 4 of which were Varsity players. Lauren Alioto, Lauren Drews, Madison LaPaz, Abby Taylor and Grace Westerman. They will surely be missed by the team and coaches next year.
Girls Golf along with Boys Golf will resume with indoor training beginning in the Winter season.
