Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society Begins Accepting Applicants
Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society is the only national organization for high school juniors and seniors that recognizes excellence in the field of Social Studies. Rho Kappa provides national recognition and opportunities for exploration in the social studies. Through its sponsorship of Rho Kappa, NCSS hopes to encourage an interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for the social studies.
Oconomowoc High School is an accredited Rho Kappa school which allows OHS students to become members of this prestigious honor society. In order to become a member of Rho Kappa you must meet the following criteria:
Junior or Senior standing
At least four (4) social studies credits (It can be a class you are currently enrolled in or enrolled in second semester)
One (1) must be an AP or IB credit
A cumulative GPA of 3.75 in all social studies classes
An overall GPA of 3.00
A recommendation from a social studies teacher
You must compile a short and well made (at least one minute) video on 5 best things (Show them, not just you talking) in Oconomowoc. (You can make it with another applicant) You also have the option of individually writing a well formulated 5 paragraph essay in response to the question above.
Members of Rho Kappa are required to participate in club activities in order to maintain standing. This may include but not limited to participation in meetings, taking on leadership roles, memberships on committees or volunteering in possible community events such as the Veteran’s Brunch.
Applications are due by Friday, September 28th by 3pm (emailed to Schueller)
The first Rho Kappa meeting is Wednesday, October 3rd during pride
